Tanzania urged to embrace digital health system

DAR ES SALAAM-Health experts and stakeholders are concerning over the need for the ministry of health to embrace use of digital in scaling up electronic medical records (EMR).
The proposed clouds- connected system, according to them, will help to revolutionize the country’s healthcare delivery, pushing to universal health coverage (UHC).

Presenting a key top entitled ' Unveiling The Power Of Digital Health' during the country's maiden International Primary Health Care Conference (IPHC), Wendy Erasmus, the Chief of Health at United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) expressed that digital health was a vital cog to help propelling to better health care services, especially at primary level.

"For instance, in the side of children health care use of digital health system, including electronic medical records, is vital to improve the sub- sector's performance to the tune of much-needed zero done," she observed.

The health experts added that adoption of digital health was of paramount important in attaining traceability and quick response, as well as in providing timely solutions to varied cropping up emergency cases in the primary healthcare (PHC) sector.
On his part, Erick Kitali, the Director of Information Technology (ICT) at the President Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), raised that the government was however starting to take some useful initiative to support digital transformation in the health sector.

He said the helpful initiative is being executed from the levels of leadership ang management at the PHC centers.

"The goal, among others is to ensure the country’s health sector sails in the same boat with the ongoing rapid development in technology," he informed.

Together with that, he raised concern over the need stakeholders to chip- in and support further conduction of key training programs meant to impart the health professionals
