President Samia, Jinping Witness Signing of 15 Agreements

BEIJING-President Samia Suluhu Hassan and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China witnessed the signing of 15 strategic agreements today in Beijing aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, trade and investments between the two countries.
Tanzania will receive a grant of 100 million RMB from China as part of an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation signed between the two nations.

A Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine and Veterinary Sanitary Requirement for WildAquatic Products to be exported from Tanzania to China was also signed by officials from the two countries.

A Protocol of Phytosanitary Requirements for Export of Fresh Avocado Fruits from Tanzania to China was signed, paving the way for increased avocado exports from Tanzania to the giant Chinese market.

The two heads of state also witnessed the signing of a draft loan agreement on the Zanzibar International Airport Terminal II project, worth around $56.72 million.

The agreements were signed during the historic state visit by President Samia to China at the invitation of President Jinping, where the two leaders held official talks.

China is a leading source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Tanzania, accounting for 1,098 investment projects in Tanzania by October 2022, worth $9.6 billion, which have created 131,718 jobs.
