GENEVA-Tanzania's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Offices in Geneva, H.E. Dr. Abdallah Saleh Possi, led the country's delegation to the Global Services Forum during the 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XVI) in Geneva.
The forum focused on leveraging the services sector to drive structural transformation, economic diversification, and inclusive growth in developing countries.
Tanzania's participation underscores the growing importance of trade in services to the country's economic growth and resilience.
Services play a vital role in Tanzania's economy, contributing significantly to GDP, employment, and export earnings.
They also support key sectors such as agriculture, industry, and tourism by enhancing connectivity, finance, logistics, and technology.
As Tanzania pursues its Vision 2050 and implements the National Trade Policy (2023), strengthening trade in services is crucial for enhancing competitiveness, promoting digital transformation, and deepening regional integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
