THE Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a weather alert for coastal residents and sea users, warning them to remain vigilant as Severe Tropical Storm Chenge continues its westward movement over the Indian Ocean towards Tanzania.
As of Saturday morning, the storm was located approximately 1,280 kilometers east of the coast of Mafia Island.
According to TMA, the system is expected to gradually weaken in intensity as it approaches the country's coastline.
Despite the anticipated weakening, the storm is forecast to bring periods of strong winds, and large ocean waves between October 26 and 28.
The TMA advises residents and sea users to stay informed through the latest weather forecasts and updates and to seek advice and guidance from experts in relevant sectors.
