South African state-owned defence manufacturer Denel is carrying out a five-year programme to upgrade Oman’s G6 artillery, with plans for a facility in the Gulf country and deliveries continuing until June 2030.
The work covers the 155mm wheeled artillery system, including testing and integration, according to details published by specialist outlet DefenceWeb on 28 September.

Denel’s 2024/25 annual report identifies Oman as the customer and says the upgrade contract is worth more than R2 billion, approximately $122 million at the 28 September exchange rate. The contract itself predates this week’s report.

The G6 is a South African-developed artillery system carried on a six-wheeled armoured vehicle. Its ability to move without being towed has helped Denel sell it abroad, the system is in service in South Africa, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
