His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit address to the Nation on the 10th anniversary of the Country’s Independence

His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has increased civil servant salary by 100%.

in his address of the 10th Independence anniversary, President Kiir increased salary scales of civil servants and also ordered the Ministry of Petroleum to allocate 5,000 barrels of crude oil to boost the country’s economy.

“I am aware that our civil servants have endured irregular salary payments for a long time as the salary scales have not been reviewed since we re-aligned our currency in 2015,"said.

In regard to this issue, the government has resolved to increase salaries by 100 % in 2021/2022 budget as phase one with immediate effect during the financial year. President Salva Kiir told the media during Independence Day celebrations.

In addition, H.E. the President directed the ministry of finance and planning and Ministry of petroleum to allocate 5,000 barrels of the Nile Blend Crude oil to strengthen the financial standing of the government in order to regularize salary and operation fund payments” the president said.

The president also pardoned 15 prisoners who were serving jail terms in various prisons across South Sudan.

In his final remarks H.E President Salva Kiir promised the citizens of a durable peace.

“I call upon you to embrace peace in all your activities and interactions.

"I assure you that I will not return you back to war. Let us work together to recover the lost decade and put our country back to the path of development,” President Kiir said.
