ZANZIBAR-The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and Astria Learning have discussed how their collaboration can help SUZA expand its reach both locally and beyond Tanzania’s borders through a robust eCampus platform.
Speaking with the delegation from Astria Learning on April 2, 2025, at SUZA’s main campus in Tunguu, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Moh’d Makame Haji, said that their ideas had come at the right time, as SUZA was actively brainstorming ways to advance its eCampus program.
"We had been considering such an initiative, and just as we were contemplating where to start, this delegation arrived, reinforcing our confidence in achieving our goal," said Prof. Haji.
He stated that this platform will enhance SUZA’s global recognition and enable a broader reach by providing an easy and efficient way to access education through eCampus. Initially, the platform will offer the programs currently taught at the university, with new ones gradually being introduced to accommodate more professionals.
He informed the delegation that internet services have been strengthened across all eleven SUZA campuses and that the Learning Management System is operating efficiently, thanks to the university’s connection to the Tanzania Education Research and Education Network (TERNET).
Astria Learning’s founder, Jeff Bordes, expressed his admiration for SUZA’s commitment to academic excellence and its efforts in improving digital networks, which will enhance the accessibility and efficiency of the eCampus services.
He added that the campus infrastructure developed and managed by Astria Learning will enable SUZA to enroll a wider range of students, not just from Tanzania but from around the world.
Bordes stated that the platform will provide flexible, high-quality online programs, allowing SUZA to attract international students and Tanzanian expatriates seeking advanced educational opportunities.
He proudly mentioned that his organization has helped partner institutions surpass 10,000 enrollments within the first three years of launching their online programs. This global reach will be instrumental in positioning SUZA as a leader in innovative digital education.
While presenting on the organization, Ana shared her personal experience studying through eCampus programs, stating that the method provided her with peace of mind and that she preferred it over attending traditional on-campus classes.
Additionally, she explained that students enrolling in the program can continue their studies using ICT services, as they can download learning materials and proceed with their education even without internet access.
