THE Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a statement alerting the public to extreme hot conditions in various parts of the country, particularly in bimodal areas.
The increase in temperatures over the past few months is attributed to the movement of the overhead sun and reduced rainfall in these regions.
"There has been an increase in Temperatures in some parts of the country, particularly in
Bimodal areas, during the past few months.
"This condition has been triggered by the movement of the overhead Sun, coupled with reduced rainfall observed in those areas.
"Normally, periods of the overhead Sun in the country peak towards the end of November
when the Sun is moving southward (towards the Tropic of Capricorn), and this pattern recurs in February when the Sun is moving northward (towards the Tropic of Cancer)."
According to TMA, the overhead Sun is associated with rising temperatures since the Earth’s surface in the affected areas is closer to the Sun compared to other regions.
During November 2025, extreme hot conditions continued to be observed in some parts of the country.
As of 27th November 2025, the Moshi meteorological station (Kilimanjaro region) reported the highest maximum temperature of 35.7°C on 21st November, 2025,which is an increase of 4.2°C compared to the long-term mean for November at that particular station.
The Ilonga meteorological station (Morogoro) reported 35.5°C on 20th November (an increase of 2.7°C) whereas Morogoro meteorological station reported 34.5°C on 26th November (an increase of 2.3°C).
The Ibadakuli (Shinyanga) station reported 33.6°C on 14 November (an increase of 2.2°C), and Dar es Salaam recorded 33.2°C on 19 and 21November (an increase of 1.6°C).
Additionally, the increase in atmospheric moisture (relative humidity) during this period as a result of evaporation from the Ocean particularly over coastal and nearby areas has also contributed to the body feeling hotter than usual temperatures.
However, during the month of December 2025, periods of rainfall are expected to occur over many parts of the country.
This situation is expected to lead to a decrease in temperatures over some areas particularly the bimodal rainfall regime.
The public is advised to continue to make regular follow-ups to weather forecasts and severe weather warnings issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority, and to seek, obtain, and follow expert advice from the relevant sectors in order to reduce the impacts
associated with adverse weather conditions.
