UNITED Republic of Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman have strengthened their bilateral cooperation in digital records and archives management following the handover of modern Data Centre equipment, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, and upgraded network facilities to the Government of Tanzania.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Minister of State in the President's Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance,Hon.Ridhiwani Kikwete said the equipment donated by the National Records and Archives Authority of the Sultanate of Oman marks a significant milestone in Tanzania's efforts to modernize government records management through digital technologies.
Hon.Kikwete said the new facilities will enhance the digital management of government records and archives, improve the security of official information, facilitate timely access to public records, strengthen the long-term preservation of vital national archives, and improve efficiency in public service delivery.
"This contribution will significantly strengthen the Government's digital records management system by enhancing information security, improving access to official records, preserving important national archives for future generations, and increasing the efficiency of public service delivery,"Hon.Kikwete said.
He added that the support also reflects the strong historical ties and growing strategic partnership between Tanzania and Oman, which continue to expand across various sectors, including governance, trade, investment, culture, and institutional development.
According to the Minister, investing in modern digital records management systems is a key component of the Government's broader agenda to promote good governance, transparency, accountability, and effective public administration.
He emphasized that reliable digital archives and records systems are essential for safeguarding national information, supporting informed decision-making, and ensuring that government institutions operate efficiently while preserving the country's documentary heritage.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials from both Tanzania and Oman, including the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Tanzania, H.E. Said Hilal Al-Shidhani, Ambassador Abdallah Kilima from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, as well as officials and staff from Tanzania's Records and Archives Management Department.
