ZIMBABWEAN authorities have confirmed a fatal helicopter crash in rural Marondera, east of Harare, killing six people on board. The crash happened on Wednesday evening, September 30, at around 5pm.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the aircraft went down in Marondera, Mashonaland East Province, with six occupants on board.Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana confirmed: “Current information indicates that there were no survivors in this crash.”
Prominent businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy Muteke were among the victims. The death was confirmed by family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo, who told ZBC that the family is at a loss for words.
Police said the aircraft was carrying the businessman, three other passengers and two pilots. Investigations to determine the cause of the crash are underway. Police say a detailed report will be issued in due course.Wicknell Chivayo (43), was one of Zimbabwe's most prominent businessmen, known for Intratrek Zimbabwe and his philanthropy work.(NA)
