DAR ES SALAAM, 20 October 2026- The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has announced the presence of a low-pressure system in the Indian Ocean near the Seychelles Islands, approximately 1,600 kilometers from the coast of Tanzania.
Satellite image showing the low-pressure system near Seychelles expected to strengthen into a tropical cyclone.
According to TMA, the system is expected to strengthen into a tropical cyclone over the Indian Ocean within the next four days as it moves westward toward the Tanzanian coast.
The Authority says the system is also expected to enhance rain-making mechanisms along the country's coastal areas and nearby regions, particularly from 24 October 2026.
TMA public notice issued on 20th October 2026 warning of the system.
TMA has advised sea users and the general public to closely follow its latest weather forecasts and updates, and to seek guidance from experts in the relevant sectors.
The Authority said it will continue to monitor the development of the low-pressure system and will provide further updates as necessary.
