Ancient Indian Education system is the preparation for life

THE Indian culture has long tradition of education having formal and informal system of education. It was a residential schooling system whose origin dates back to around five thousand B.C. in the Indian subcontinent.

It was more than the system in which teacher and learner are co partner.So this system of education has been taken sense of understanding about education and the role of teacher, which has been changed with the time over a long periods.

In this system the education is considered as a process of self development, which contained improvement from birth till death.

At primary stage it was considered as an education of living life and it also the learning activity from day today life.

So it has been considered as second stage of education.However this system of education was considered as the preparation to life, for the life and of the life.

That means it is a perform to make general person to super personalities by performing different role in life from primary stage to the separate stage of life.

Knowledge for thought is considered as third eye in ancient society, which gives consideration of all the life including logic of day to day activity.

Thus now came to the aim of education and what aiming Indian education.The spirituality, personality, the character building,the development of civic sense,promoting efficiency,development of culture and all other activities are the aim of Indian ancient education system.

We should around all these as aim of education at that time. So the curriculum has planned in this manner for development of personality and enhancement of teaching learning process, which is the life long process of self improvement.

It was a continuous process having aim of self improvement and source of harmonious progress as a self mentor.

Intellectual and spiritual development of learner use him or her as a noble citizen and make progress for present as well as future life of individual.

What kind of ancient education- India have the gurukul system of education which is the place of learning for all categories students of all kinds of social life system.

The student was required to stay with the Guru for the specified period of study.Guru’s ashram was a kind of boarding school.

Every one irrespective of richness or higher status lived together was treated same. Everyone had to beg alms.

Guru is the head of gurukul.His figure life father, parent, guardian in the Gurukul. Guru tought without fee. The learners are the real scholar and spiritual enlightened.

Madhukari- The madhukari system is that in which mendicant who takes a little food from each householder’s place like a bee gathering honey.

So it is a system of begging adopted by mendicant. By this system all learner equally treated.No feelings of superiority or inferiority.

Gurudakhina- Bidya dana is best dana in ancient education . Guru do this dana not to accumulate wealth.

The Guru Dakhina is a very old and ancient concept belonging to the Indians. It is qnique because no other country has this beautiful tradition. It is the tradition to repay one’s guru or the teacher after the complete process of education is over.

Status of Guru in gurukul system. Guru is one ,who has imminence knowledge, wisdom and command over subject and makes use of it to guide his disciples.

Guru is the building block of society, who help to become a person better to human being. For his self less service, teacher, the guru, was held in very high esteem by the society and was respected by even kings.

He was revered more than parents and enjoyed a unique status, even higher than that of Gods. So it is said , “Guru Brahma, G.uru Vishnu,Gurudevo maheshwara.Guru sakhyat parambrahma tasmai shree Guruvo Namah!!”

The guru was an epitome of good qualities of head,heart and hand spirituality, knowledge and scholarship.

A true teacher was supposed to be a student till the end of life. That means life time learner.The guru was “Guide by side “not the sage on the stage.

Guru were an institution by themselves famous for their scholarship and sacrifice for the society of a large number of students.

So the guru would involves senior students in management of teaching learning process. This provided assistance to Guru in his work.

Opportunity to prospective teachers for learning art teaching to prospective, This monitorial system is a contribution of ancient education system . Later during Manu’s period teaching become family profession nof Brahmins only.

In the words of Rabindra nath Tagore “the Guru gives knowledge like candle ,which gives light till its end.” Thus India is the epitome of knowledge, as it is the home land of Gurus like Vyasa, Maekendeya, Sushrut,ZPatanjali, Chankya, Valmiki, Vashishtha.

The ancient education focused on imparting ethics like humanity,truthfulness, discipline,self reliance and respecting all creations to the students.

Thus education was mostly imparted in ashrams,gurukuls,t emples, houses. Sometimes pujaries used to teach as students. So it becomes , their profession.

In ancient period.It is known that people from other nations such as Europe,the middle East and Portugal came to India to get quality education .As one of the famous educational system practiced in India.
