Tanzania's President Dr.Samia pays tribute to former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

THE President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has expressed her deepest condolences following the passing of former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari.

"On behalf of the Government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania, I convey our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Buhari’s family and the people of Nigeria.May his soul Rest In Peace."

In a heartfelt message, President Samia Suluhu Hassan conveyed her sadness on behalf of the Government and the people of Tanzania to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of the late President Buhari, and the people of Nigeria.

Death

Buhari died on 13 July 2025 in London, United Kingdom, while receiving medical treatment after being hospitalised, according to his spokesperson Garba Shehu. He was 82 years old at the time of his death.

Mixed reactions across social media and Nigeria streets trailed his death.Many citizens were offering prayers while others cursed the hardships Nigerians have been facing since his first term in 2015.
Following the passing of Buhari in London, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a solemn address to the nation, expressing deep sorrow and acknowledging Buhari's decades of service to Nigeria.

Tinubu offered personal condolences to Mrs. Aisha Buhari and described his legacy as enduring and significant to Nigeria's democratic path.

On the same day, Tinubu issued a formal directive ordering Vice-President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari's body back to Nigeria, ensuring a respectful return.

He also mandated that all national flags be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect and mourning, and called for nationwide tributes to honor Buhari's contributions to anti-corruption, security, and governance reforms during his time as head of state and president.
