Queen shares favourite photo of Prince Philip on eve of his funeral

The Queen has shared her favourite picture with the Duke of Edinburgh as she prepares for his funeral, by News Agencies.

Prince Philip, who died on 9 April at the age of 99, will be laid to rest in a ceremony which he helped to plan on Saturday, with the Queen to sit alone in St George's Chapel, following coronavirus restrictions.

On the eve of the funeral, the Queen shared a new image of her with the duke, taken in 2003 by their daughter-in-law, the Countess of Wessex.

In the image, the Queen beams as she sits on a hill next to her husband, who looks relaxed as he reclines next to her.

He has taken off his hat, which is resting on his knee, and smiles at the camera.

The picture was taken in Coyles of Muick, a beauty spot near the town of Ballater in Aberdeenshire. The couple enjoyed their summer holidays in Scotland, on the Balmoral estate.

It shows the private side of the Queen and the duke, and how she will remember her husband of 73 years. The queen, dressed in a tartan skirt, blouse, and cardiador with a pearl necklace, is also sitting on a carpet.

The picture is believed to have been taken during the couple's traditional summer break on the Queen's nearby private estate in Balmoral.

The monarch's decision to post the photo suggests that this is how she will remember her husband. The 600 meter high Coyles of Muick stand above the entrance to Glen Muick and reward hikers with an unrestricted view of Lochnagar Mountain. Last month it turned out that the Queen had named her new corgi pup Muick in her honor.

She also bought a dorgi puppy playmate named Fergus, who is believed to have been named after Fergus Bowes-Lyon, her maternal uncle who died in France during World War I.

The area was painted by the Prince of Wales, whose Scottish summer vacation in Birkhall is nearby.

Meanwhile, Mike Tindall, who is married to the Queen and Duke Zara's granddaughter, posted a picture of Prince Philip with the couple's eldest daughter, Mia.
