5 arrested for making fake General Receipt Books

LILONGWE,The Malawi Police Service (MPS) informs Malawians of the arrest of three officers from the Government Print and two officers from the Malawi Police Service for allegedly conniving and making fake General Receipt Books to steal from Malawians. The five were arrested Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Lilongwe.

The identities of the suspects are as follows:

Victor Masonga 46, Chiwalo Village Traditional Authority Mpunga District Chiradzulu Occupation Police Officer

Emmanuel Magombo, 46, Village Kamonga Traditional Authority Kaphuka District Dedza Occupation Police Officer.

Phillip Mwenye Phiri 46, Village Senzani Traditional Authority Phambala District Ntcheu Occupation Technical Assistant Printer Government Print.

Theresa Nkhoma, 46, Traditional Authority Chikowi District Zomba Occupation Assistant Printer, Goverment Print.

Dennis Chikuni Banda, 58, Village Mzangamo,Traditional Authority Nyoka District Mchinji Occupation Assistant Printer Government Print.

It is believed that the police officers working in accounts section, Traffic Police Headquarters were using the fake General Receipts Books in collecting Government Revenue, parallel with the official Receipt Books.

It is also believed that the syndicate has been happening in the fiscal year between July, 2020 to 30 June 2021 and that revenue amounting to K14,743,000.00 was collected and misappropriated.

The suspects will answer charges ranging from making a false document, theft by servant to fraudulent false accounting.
