MOZAMBIQUE STARTS EXPORTING LNG IN NOVEMBER 2022

MOZAMBIQUE is now on the list of the World's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exporters. It will have 2 LNG plants, all using the Rovuma Basin gas reserves.

Plant No. 1

is an offshore Floating LGN

will produce and export 3.4 million tons of LNG per annum

export begins in November 2022

main operator is Eni of Italy


Plant No. 2

is onshore LNG plant

will start producing 12.8 million tons of LNG per annum in 2024 (conflicts in northern Mozambique has delayed this project)

full production of 13.1 million tons per annum (mtpa) will now take off in 2026

main operator is TotalEnergies of France




Natural Gas reserves of Mozambique

it holds 100 tcf (100 trillion cubic feet)

unpublished reports argue for 200 tcf

if we consider the 2017 World's total natural gas reserves of 6, 923 tcf, then Mozambique ranks 14th in World, accounting for approx 1% of the World's total.
