Uganda tops Group C with 2-0 win over Niger

KAMPALA-Uganda's 2-0 victory over Niger in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) has propelled them to the top of Group C with six points from three matches at Nelson Mandela National Stadium on August 11th,2025 in Kampala,Uganda.
Allan Okello and Joel Sserunjogi scored the goals, with Okello's clinical finish in the 25th minute and Sserunjogi's emphatic strike in the 56th minute securing the win.

Okello scored the opening goal after his penalty was saved by Niger goalkeeper Mahamadou Tanja. He then set up Sserunjogi for the second goal, showcasing his skill and composure.
The Ugandan defense, marshaled by centre-backs Gavin Kizito and Hilary Mukundane, was solid and decisive under pressure. Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa made crucial saves to deny Niger.

Niger struggled to create clear chances, with their best opportunities coming from set pieces. They failed to capitalize on Uganda's mistakes and were ultimately undone by their lack of precision in the penalty box.
Uganda's win puts them in a strong position to qualify for the quarter-finals. They face South Africa next, and a win or draw could secure their spot in the next round.
