MANAMA-Tanzania has retained the country’s global position as ‘The World’s leading Safari Destination,’ during the World Travel Awards 2025 Grand Finals.
Tanzania was crowned with the coveted title in the global travel industry at the 32nd instalment of the World Travel Awards (WTA 2025) whose grand finals’ Gala ceremony took place at Bahrain's acclaimed Exhibition World Center on the 6th of December 2025.
Described to be the “Oscars” of global tourism and the industry’s most prestigious awards, the WTA grand final gala ceremony attracted more than 500 government and industry practitioners.
It was a triple win for Tanzania because the Spice Islands of Zanzibar managed to scoop the World Mice Awards as Africa Best Corporate Retreat Destinations.
The Serengeti, home to the legendary wildebeest migration was also named the “World’s Leading National Park 2025,” during the global awards.
In addition, Tanzania also managed to rake in two more awards in the Private Sector Category, including the World’s Leading Balloon Ride Operator, a title which went to the Serengeti Balloon Safaris.
The second is the Best Private Island Resort Award which was won by Jumaira Thanda Resort operating from Mafia Island on the Tanzanian Indian Ocean waters.
Commenting after receiving the WTA awards, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Dr. Hassan Abbasi said the accolades were the recognition of the great work done by Tanzanian government and private sector in promoting responsible tourism and reinforcing conservation in the country.
Tanzania, which won the award for the second year in a row, is set to host the grand final ceremony for the forthcoming World Travel Awards coming in December 2026.
Previously Tanzania was named the leading African Safari Destination in 2025.
