Government Committee moves to plug revenue gaps at Juba International Airport

THE Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reforms has engaged officials of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies at Juba International Airport to strengthen measures aimed at improving revenue collection.

The two-day assessment, chaired by the Minister of East African Community Affairs, Hon. Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol brought together the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, the Customs Department under the South Sudan Revenue Authority, and officials from Trade and Immigration.

The committee held briefings with the Director General of SSCAA,Dr. Ayiei Garang as well as representatives of revenue-generating agencies operating at JIA.

Discussions focused on addressing gaps in revenue collection to finance essential government programs, including payment of salaries and other priorities.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Rapporteur of the Committee and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation,Hon. James Mawich Makuach said, the visit was intended to assess the current status of revenue collections at the country’s main airport.

“The committee will file a comprehensive report containing achievements and challenges after concluding this assessment at Juba International Airport, one of the key revenue generating institutions in the country,” Mawich stated.

He added that the engagement forms part of the committee’s broader mandate to gather views and recommendations aimed at tackling economic challenges affecting the people of South Sudan.

Also in attendance were the Minister of Transport,Hon. Rizik Zacharia Hassan, his Undersecretary Hon. Paul Dhel Gum and the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of SSCAA, Hon. Samuel Yanga Mikaya among other dignitaries. The meeting was held at the Civil Aviation Authority Headquarters in Juba.
