THE University of Dar es Salaam has appointed Prof. Amani Lusekelo as the Acting Principal of the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), effective 18th May 2026.


The appointment was made by the Chancellor of UDSM, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, according to a press release issued by the university’s Communication and Marketing Unit on 23rd May 2026.
Prof. Lusekelo is a Professor in the Department of Languages and Literature at DUCE. He holds a PhD in African Languages and Literature from the University of Botswana, a Master of Arts in Linguistics, and a Bachelor of Arts with Education from the University of Dar es Salaam.
His research focuses on linguistic landscapes, language contact, ethnolinguistics, African language structures, and Bantu morphosyntax.
He is also the Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the International Conferences on Bantu Languages and President of the Language Association of East African Languages (LAEA).
Before this role, Prof. Lusekelo served as Deputy Principal for Academic, Research and Consultancy at DUCE, and previously as Director of Research and Innovation at the College.
The university congratulated him on the appointment and wished him success in his new responsibilities.
