The African Development Bank (AfDB) has outlined the scale of its support for Morocco’s energy transition, pointing to major investments in renewable energy and electricity infrastructure that have helped expand access to power and strengthen the national grid.
In a report published last Friday, the bank said Morocco has made steady progress in reshaping its energy sector through large-scale projects and network upgrades supported by the institution over several years.
Among the most prominent projects is the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, the largest Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant in the world. The AfDB Group contributed $485 million across the different phases of the project.
The complex has an installed capacity of 580 megawatts spread across four power plants. According to the bank, it supplies electricity to nearly two million people and helps avoid around one million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
