THE Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF) has assured the public that the country's borders remain secure and the overall security situation is stable, while urging citizens to disregard any calls encouraging violence or actions that could undermine peace and national stability.
In a public statement, TPDF Director of Information and Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Sylvester Mangure, said the prevailing peace and stability are a result of citizens' patriotism and their continued cooperation with security agencies in safeguarding the nation.

He noted that the peaceful environment has enabled Tanzanians to continue with their daily economic and nation-building activities without disruption.

However, the military said it has observed attempts by individuals with ill intentions toward the country to spread misinformation and incite members of the public to participate in acts of violence and public disorder.

According to the statement, such individuals have also been falsely claiming that the TPDF would protect or support those engaging in violent activities, allegations the military has dismissed as misleading and intended to create confusion among the public.

The TPDF warned that participation in violent acts could lead to serious consequences, including loss of life, destruction of property, disruption of normal economic activities and damage to the country's economy.

The Defence Force therefore called upon all citizens to reject any form of incitement to violence and instead continue carrying out their lawful daily activities without fear.

The statement further emphasized that the TPDF will not hesitate to take appropriate legal action against anyone involved in acts that threaten peace and public order.

The military explained that under Article 147(2) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977, it has a constitutional mandate to safeguard the country's sovereignty, protect its citizens and defend national security.

It further cited Section 22 of the National Defence Act, Chapter 192, which empowers the Defence Force to assist civil authorities whenever riots, public disorder or other threats to peace arise.

The TPDF also urged citizens to report any signs of incitement or threats to public peace to village and local government leaders, as well as to security agencies, to enable timely intervention.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Defence Force assured Tanzanians that it will continue to execute its constitutional responsibilities of defending the nation, protecting the Constitution and supporting civil authorities with professionalism, discipline, loyalty and dedication.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the TPDF will continue working closely with citizens and other security agencies to preserve peace, unity and stability as the foundation for Tanzania's development.
