Singapore, ranked world's second-richest country by GDP per capita in 2025, will give more than 2.4 million adult citizens a cash payment of S$400-600 (US$310-470) in September to help with living expenses.
The payment, called Cost-of-Living Special Payment, will be given to citizens aged 21 and above in 2026 who live in the city-state, have an assessable income of no more than S$100,000 in the 2025 assessment year and own no more than one property, according to the Ministry of Finance’s announcement on Thursday.
The amount received will vary based on each recipient’s assessable income and the annual value of their home. Those with an income of up to S$22,000 and a home with an annual value of no more than S$15,000 will receive the maximum S$600.
Eligible recipients will receive the payment automatically from Sept. 9.
The payment was originally announced as part of Singapore’s 2026 national budget, with eligible citizens slated to receive S$200-400.
The government added another S$200 in April as part of measures to help households and businesses cope with price increases linked to the Middle East conflict.
