Tanzania and ADDI seek stronger diaspora role in Africa's development

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan today held talks with the President of African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI), Ambassador Arikana Chihombori-Quao, at State House in Dar es Salaam.

The talks focused on strengthening cooperation between Tanzania, ADDI and the African diaspora to advance the continent’s development.

The two leaders discussed the importance of helping young people understand African history, their role in development and the political and economic shifts reshaping the world.

President Samia said young Africans needed the knowledge to navigate a changing global landscape and contribute meaningfully to the future of their countries and the continent.

She also stressed the need to instil patriotism and strengthen young people’s understanding of civic responsibility, leadership, media literacy and participation in community and development affairs.

The talks also covered women’s role in raising families, building communities, providing leadership, preserving culture and passing on Africa’s indigenous knowledge.

Ambassador Chihombori-Quao commended President Samia’s leadership and Tanzania’s continuing development progress.

She said cooperation between Africa and ADDI can help mobilise investment, facilitate knowledge exchange and promote a more accurate and positive account of the continent.

President Samia commended Ambassador Chihombori-Quao’s longstanding advocacy for African interests and her efforts to strengthen ties between the continent and the global African diaspora.
