TANZANIA also managed their second game, as Nigeria and Morocco did. Against France, the Serengeti Girls beat Les Bleues 2-1, despite a late red card.

It is a feat for Tanzania which has just won its first victory in this world tournament. Against the French at Fatorda Stadium (The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium) situated in Margao, Goa, India., the Tanzanians surprised with an impressive match.

Diana William Mnaly was the first to score, opening the scoring after 17 minutes. Behind, the Serengeti girls doubled their lead on a penalty on the hour mark thanks to Christer John Bahera.

However, the match almost changed when Lucie Calba reduced the score in the 77th minute on a penalty in favor of France.

A second yellow card, synonymous with red, from Joyce Fred Lema in the 90th minute also penalized the end of the game for the Tanzanians. But like strong warriors, the Serengeti Girls rose to the challenge, winning the game 2-1.

With this success, Tanzania is provisionally second in its Group D of the U17 Women's World Cup with 3 points. It is behind Japan (3 points).

Under coach Bakari Shime’s team recorded a total of four shots on target against seven shots pumped in by France who were held to a 1-1 draw by Canada in their inaugural match of group D.

Up next, Tanzania face Canada on Tuesday in their last group D game of which they target to also stamp a victory in order to make a breakthrough.

On Friday, two other Africa continent representatives Morocco and Nigeria also stamped wins as the former defeated India 3-0 while the latter outclassed New Zealand 4-0.
