Police arrest 515 suspects in Geita as security operations intensify

THE Tanzania Police Force in Geita Region has reported significant success in its efforts to combat crime, with a total of 515 suspects arrested for various offenses during March 2026.
According to an official statement issued by the Geita Regional Police Commander, SACP Safia Jongo the security situation in the region has continued to improve due to coordinated efforts between the police, other security agencies, and the public.

The statement noted that a series of operations, patrols, and targeted crackdowns conducted across different parts of the region led to the arrest of individuals linked to a wide range of criminal activities.

These include murder, theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, illegal immigration, negligence, loitering, violation of licensing regulations, gambling, impersonation of government officials, and drug-related offenses.

Other offenses recorded include illegal possession of government trophies, unlawful fishing using prohibited nets, production of illicit local brews, and possession of unauthorized mining equipment.

In terms of legal proceedings, a total of 482 cases have been filed in courts of law. Out of these, 261 cases have already been concluded, with suspects receiving various penalties in accordance with the law, while 221 cases are still ongoing at different stages of the judicial process.

During the operations, police also seized a range of items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

These include cash amounting to TZS 4,000,000, 15 motorcycles, 16 smartphones, 3 basic mobile phones, 9 cattle, 920 liters of diesel fuel, a generator, three boat engines, as well as household electronic items such as televisions, speakers, and subwoofers.

Additionally, 700 grams of cannabis, a gazelle horn, a piece of gazelle skin, 166 illegal fishing nets, and 459 liters of illicit alcohol were confiscated.

In efforts to enhance road safety, the police conducted traffic operations involving 6,804 motor vehicles and 4,250 motorcycles.

Offenses identified included driving without a license, lack of vehicle insurance, failure by buses to adhere to schedules, failure to wear helmets, not using seat belts, and unsafe transportation of passengers.

Furthermore, the courts have continued to deliver judgments in several cases, with some offenders sentenced to long-term imprisonment while others were fined depending on the severity of their crimes.

The Geita Regional Police have urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information on criminal activities, participating in community policing initiatives, and adhering to the laws and safety regulations, particularly road safety guidelines.

Overall, these efforts underscore the Police Force’s strong commitment to maintaining peace, security, and stability for residents and their property in Geita Region.
