EgyptAir launches direct Cairo to Zanzibar flights,boosting tourism and connectivity

THE Zanzibar Airports Authority has further strengthened Zanzibar’s position on the global tourism and aviation map following the official launch of direct flights by EgyptAir between Cairo,Egypt and Zanzibar.

The inaugural EgyptAir flight from Cairo arrived at the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA) at approximately 5:00 a.m., carrying 152 passengers, marking the formal commencement of direct air connectivity between the two destinations.

The historic arrival was received by the Guest of Honour, Zanzibar’s Minister for Construction and Transport, Hon.Dr. Khalid Salum Mohamed alongside government officials, aviation stakeholders and representatives from the tourism sector.

Introduction of the new route is expected to expand travel opportunities between Zanzibar and Egypt, with Cairo serving as a major aviation hub connecting Africa to various destinations across the globe.

The new service is also expected to contribute to the growth of tourism, trade and investment in Zanzibar by facilitating direct access for visitors from Egypt, as well as travellers from other international markets connected through Cairo.

EgyptAir is expected to operate the route twice a week, on Mondays and Saturdays, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Speaking during the reception ceremony, Zanzibar’s Minister for Construction and Transport, Hon. Dr. Khalid Salum Mohamed, emphasised the importance of continuously improving and expanding air transport services to support the growth of the tourism sector and the wider Zanzibar economy.

He underscored the significance of strengthening aviation infrastructure and services as part of efforts to make Zanzibar more accessible and attractive to tourists, business travellers and investors from different parts of the world.

The arrival of EgyptAir adds to the growing network of international routes at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport and further consolidates Zanzibar’s position as a key tourism and aviation destination in East Africa.

The direct Cairo to Zanzibar flight takes approximately five hours and 45 minutes, providing travellers with a direct connection between the two cities without the need to transit through another airport.

For Zanzibar, the expansion of direct international air services is expected to broaden its tourism market reach, increase visitor arrivals and stimulate economic activities linked to tourism, including hospitality, transportation, trade and other related services.

The launch of the EgyptAir Cairo to Zanzibar route therefore represents another significant milestone in strengthening Zanzibar’s connectivity with the rest of the world, while creating greater opportunities for tourism, trade and investment and enhancing the island’s accessibility as an increasingly important destination in East Africa.
